Alien Air, Measured in Parts Per Million

Change the planet, star, atmosphere, clouds, spectral resolution, and number of observed transits. The lab turns those choices into a wavelength-dependent transit depth, with labelled molecular bands and noisy synthetic measurements.

What this simulator is doing

The model computes a baseline transit depth from \(R_p/R_\star\), estimates scale height with \(H=k_BT/(\mu m_H g)\), then adds Gaussian molecular bands whose amplitudes scale approximately with \(2N_HR_pH/R_\star^2\). Clouds suppress features. Resolution broadens and smooths them. Repeated transits reduce random noise as \(1/\sqrt{N}\), while the stellar contamination control adds a wavelength-dependent systematic shape that does not average away politely.
